This is small, but could the Airtable field type icons (A, #, fx, etc) be removed from the field labels in the grid view as they are in the legacy grid view? They’re actually a little confusing in shared/embedded views–they sort of give the appearance of interactivity when it’s not actually there. I’ve had users ask about a lookup field and a single select field. The icon in the former makes it look as though they can search for something and they thought the arrow in the latter meant they could make a selection.

My second question is whether allowing in-grid editing in the new grid view as in the legacy grid view is in the works? This was really helpful in grids with only a few editable fields–users could make a small edit directly in the grid instead of having scroll back to the first field and open a separate form just to check a box. I’d also love the return of spreadsheet-style record numbering in grids. It’s a nice feature in the legacy grid.

Last, will the new form have Stripe or Calendly integration in the future?

OK so that wasn’t the last thing because I don’t want to sound too picky–it’s really exciting to see all the new features! The new portal is fantastic, as is everything happening with forms. I’ve been a customer for at least two years, when I had to completely transition and rebuild two huge ongoing projects to Airtable. Miniextensions completely saved the day and it’s great to see how committed you guys are to creating and maintaining a truly useful product.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback! Here’s a list of the requests mentioned above:

1. I will create a ticket now for the team to provide the ability to hide those field icons.
2. Inline editing for the grid: Yes, it’s in the works. We plan to release it in the next upcoming weeks.
3. I will create a ticket for numbering records on the grid.
4. Stripe & Calendly: We plan on adding those over the upcoming weeks.

And I’m very glad you like the new features that we’re shipping!

@Abdul whilst the inline editing you launched above was definitely an improvement on needing to open the entire record, it’s still not nearly as easy as it was in the legacy grid for field types such as single select fields

Hi @willh. I think showing the field as a list instead of dropdown will give the similar experience.

</div>

@Abdul thanks for your reply. It’s not the same experience but I appreciate you clarifying the option for a list view of single select fields.

In line editing is the ability to edit inline without opening up any other modal / form, which therefore dramatically speeds up bulk editing of multiple records. A quick experiment using legacy vs new grid view to edit the select field for 10 records suggests it’s 5-6x slower in the new portal.

Hi. Yes, I have complaints from clients that they can’t ‘bulk edit’ field, as in numerous fields in one column that I’ve changed between drop down to List and back etc for a Single Select field.

Not sure if you could add a check box at the top to select all, or edit the inline editig somehow to be a little faster?!

Hi @Albie_on_tour , our engineering team is currently working on improvements to inline editing performance and portal performance in general, so hopefully the experience will improve for your users soon!

I will forward your “bulk edit” suggestion to them as well for consideration for a future release.

Hi @Albie_on_tour , we have just released some major improvements to our inline editing functionality!

Simply selecting the field will make it editable now, much like what you’re used to from Airtable! If you don’t have inline editing enabled already, you can do so through the layout section of your table’s setting, or the custom view settings if you have a different layout enabled. Please keep in mind that field validation and conditional fields settings will be ignored while inline editing. This is a limitation for the time being but our team is working on this as well!

Please let me know if you have any questions about this or require any assistance with this! I’d be happy to help.

PS: Your “bulk edit” feature request is still in the queue. I will let you know when there’s an update on this!

</div>

Thanks Hannes - this is a very useful update and makes the Grid view far more user friendly! It is now quicker for users to edit info without having to open the form to do so. I believe this will be well received.
Something to note, as I already had inline editing turned on - some fields suddenly became editable whereas they weren’t before, so I had to double-check and update some to READ ONLY. No biggie, just something for others to be aware of.

That’s rather surprising, thank you for letting us know!

Are you saying that before, those fields didn’t have the pencil icon next to them to edit but then with the latest changes they were editable all of a sudden? If so, which field types were affected by this?

Sorry the delay, just dealing with an issue which I’ll message separately about.

There were single select and text fields that became editable, whereas they weren’t before… at least they shouldn’t have been LOL. Unless I had made an error and left some editable, but I don’t think I had.

I reported an error with the inline editing yesterday. I have two linked fields restricted to only show records linked to the User logged in. When you edit using the button and the child form pops up, they’re fine - but the inline editing isn’t restricted and it shows 100 random records that aren’t all linked to the user! I’ve had to deactive the feature until fixed as it is showing things the user shouldn’t see.
