Is this only available on the Portal? I tried it on the linked record finder and I’m getting this error.

Hi @briansport13. This is a known bug for the linked records field in the form and we already have a ticket for this. At the moment, this feature is only supported in the portal. We will keep you updated in this channel for the progress in the ticket.

Ok, glad that it wasn’t just a problem with my account. Also, while we’re on the topic of allowing custom field names, could you allow us to change the primary field name for the custom field layout for Portal as well as Form? Right now on the portal you could change all the field except the Primary Field Name since the Primary Field Name doesn’t show up in the custom field layout rather it would just show up automatically. Additionally, could you also set the Form Review Function Field Title to follow the custom Title for each field in the form? Review is a good feature, but I can’t use it right now since it would always default to the Airtable Field Name, ignoring the custom field Title Name that I’ve already set up and ended up confusing the user as the field name is not consistent from the one they filled. Also it would be great if conditional filter field title on form as well as filter field on portal view title would be editable

Hi @briansport13. Thank you for your valuable feedback. I have created tickets for the following requests:

  1. Renaming the primary field using Custom Fields for Layout
  2. Custom title display in the review modal for fields
  3. Renaming fields in the client-side filter for both the form and portal

We appreciate your input, and we will keep you updated on the progress of these tickets through this channel.

To reiterate on number 2, it should follow the custom naming title from the form itself, since it is essentially a confirmation page of the form. Therefore, it should mirror what the users just filled. As for number 3, the filter on the form I was referring to is the conditional filter.

And one more thing, staying in the theme of custom field names on the portal, sort fields are also non-customizable in terms of what is being shown (when you toggle the hide sort field to “off”, every field will be available to be used by the user, unlike the filter, which is limited to your selection) & their field name. Being able to change them would be great.

Hello, @briansport13. I’m happy to inform you that we have added support for renaming the Custom Field for Layout in a form. This means you can now customize the field name according to your preferences. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to ask.

Hi @briansport13. We are delighted to inform you that we have released the feature you requested. The custom field title is now showing up in the review modal.

Hello @briansport13. I’m excited to share that you can now customize the title of the primary field when using Custom Fields for Layout. Please ensure that you change the name of the primary field in the child form for editing records.

Hello! I’m glad I found this thread, I was looking for help with a bug and I think it’s a “feature”. Here’s a question then… How do we turn off a form’s custom field title names being mirror’d in the grid view’s field title names, please?

For example, this is the problem we have,

  • we have a ME Portal with an expanding form.
  • the portal grid is showing custom preview fields
  • in the expanding form, the field titles are re-named to something shorter
  • However, we need the grid view field titles to stay their original names, and not be the form’s titles…

i.e.,
Originally the field titles are called,

  • TBC Name
  • TBC Date
  • Misc. Name
  • Misc Date

In the expanding form, the titles in the section headers are re-named for clarity to this

TBC

  • Name
  • Date

Misc

  • Name
  • Date

But… as the grid is reflecting the field titles our grid now doesn’t make sense as these fields all look the same

  • Name
  • Date
  • Name
  • Date

So now, I need to go back and in the grid view preview fields, re-name all the fields to their original titles as they’re presently being overwritten by the form’s re-titling. Which seems backwards to me.

If this were me, I’d have preferred either the form titles to be separate from the grid titles. OR as I changed the form field titles, to have a tick box to say, “reflect in grid view field titles too”

Thanks for your time, as always.

Hi @dancourse. Sorry for the delay in responding. At the moment, the Custom Fields for Layout is your option. This makes the fields in the grid to be independent from the Edit Child Form fields.

ok. thanks for your time.

Best, DanC
